Blending South Asian Craftsmanship with Global Market Strategy

I’m Somdutta Das, a designer by education, a strategist by experience, and a lifelong learner at heart.

My story began at NIFT Delhi, where I discovered the power of design to tell stories and shape culture. What began as a creative pursuit soon evolved into a deeper fascination with how products move, how ideas become prototypes, how teams collaborate across borders, and how strategy gives creativity its direction.

Working across India and Bangladesh, I transitioned from designing collections to leading conversations on sourcing, product development, and global supply chains. Those years grounded me in the realities of the fashion ecosystem- craftsmanship, scalability, and the human networks behind every garment.

 

Today, as a Global Fashion Management graduate student at FIT, New York, I’m expanding that experience into the realms of data, technology, and innovation. I’m passionate about the intelligent use of AI, digital tools, and analytics to make creative industries more efficient, ethical, and future-ready.

 

I move easily between the worlds of design and data, strategy and storytelling- connecting what’s handcrafted with what’s high-tech. My journey is about growth, curiosity, and finding smarter, more human ways to build the future of fashion.

Taati is a design-forward capsule brand rooted in the legacy of Bangladeshi textiles- Nakshi Kantha, Jamdani, and traditional embroidery. Conceived with a data-driven approach and ethical sourcing at its core, Taati reimagines these artisanal crafts for the modern U.S. market.
